Shimadzu's Total Carbon Analyzers are based on direct determination of carbon concentration.

Analyzers of the TOC-L and TOC-V series allow obtaining measurement results according to the following indicators:

• total carbon (TC)
• total organic carbon (TOC)
• total inorganic carbon (IC)
• total non-volatile carbon (NPOC)
• total volatile carbon (ROC) - optional
• total nitrogen (TN)

The range of measured carbon concentrations is from 4 μg / L to 30 g / L. An important practical advantage of Shimadzu devices is the use of a low temperature catalyst. This prevents the precipitation of salts on the catalyst surface from transforming into an amorphous form and guarantees easy washing off of sediment in automatic mode after measurement.
